HSC was present at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. Here is a brief show summary: It is the world’s largest B2B media and entertainment event. It sees participation from companies dealing in the entire spectrum of content delivery right from content creation to consumption and everything in between. The 2014 edition of the show was attended by more than 98,000 industry representatives from 159 countries. In total 1700 companies exhibited.

4K: 4K was everywhere in the show as most companies were showcasing their readiness for it with 4K capture, production and delivery solutions on display. The main concern, although, is whether the customer is ready to take the plunge and invest in 4K TV’s or not. Almost every technology solution provider had multiscreen feature/compliance. The proliferation of end user devices (Smart TV’s, Phone, Tablets, PC’s, Gaming Devices) mandates that companies be ready to serve content to the customers in the format and time they want to. Companies in the encoding space were particularly active here showcasing how they could put out streams in which catered to the different streaming profiles of the end user devices.

Convergence between broadcasting and broadband was being talked about by everyone. It seems the lines have already started blurring between what content is being broadcasted/streamed through cable, satellite etc. and what is being streamed through Internet.
