Hughes Systique Corporation (HSC) will conduct a technology road show in field of Hotspot 2.0, flow-based data offload.
The deployment of LTE/LTE-A networks has brought with it a new set of challenges for operators. As network capacities are being pushed to their limit, operators are looking at Wifi to offload data. It is however of paramount importance that as subscribers are moved to wlan domain, their user experience is not degraded in any manner and they get similar mobility, transparency and seamless experience as they do when moving from LTE to HSPA for eg. In addition, network policies should ensure that wlan networks have sufficient bandwidth to handle user traffic and can provide same level of QoS as cellular networks do by implementing admission control policies based on location, time of day, subscriber type etc.
New technology initiatives like Hotspot/Passpoint, ANDSF and iFOM (IP Flow Mobility) can help OEMs and ISVs monitize this opportunity by addressing this critical issue for operators. While Hotspot allows automatic discovery and seamless selection of wlan network, ANDSF mechanisms can be used to enforce appropriate policies for data offload and iFOM can achieve selective offload per flow level. In conjunction, these technologies can help operators in matching the seamless experience provided by cellular networks in wlan environment without compromising on QoS.
The demo will demonstrate end-to-end traffic engineering in broadband wireless networks using IFOM in conjunction with a network optimization framework (SON). It is based on latest technologies like Hotspot/Passpoint, ANDSF and iFOM (IP Flow Mobility) that are being promoted by standardization bodies like 3GPP, IETF to promote automatic discovery, seamless selection of wlan network, enforcement of appropriate policies for data offload and selective offload per flow level. Other interesting technologies/protocols leveraged in the demo include GAS, ANQP, SIM based authentication, SON and OpenWRT.
