GMR 3G UT PHY development on SDR platform
Key Technologies : GMR1-3G CAI, SDR, SIMD

Abstract: The Project aims at implementation of the complete Physical Layer and Access Stratum based on the GMR-1 3G specifications on the Infineon's (IFX) SDR20 platform. The scope includes development and porting the baseband modules onto SIMD, porting of AS onto Thread-X RTOS, development of L1 state machine layer which will run on ARM and SIMD. The scope also includes the integration of AS and PHY on SDR20.

The challenges involved in this development include understanding of the SDR architecture and designing and implementing the complete system so that it can be seamlessly integrated with the existing AS and PHY of other RATS such as UMTS, GSM, etc.

There are also a number of advanced features which were not present in the previous deployments of satellite communication terminals like inter RAT handover; which would be part of this system.

Customer Benefits:

  • Availability of a large pool of trained engineers who ramped up while customer was busy with bagging the project
  • HSC's past experience in similar technologies saved the customer with training cost and also did not require customer involvement in design and development phases, unless he wanted to.
  • Complete development right from requirements phase to final integration and testing done offshore with minimal onsite visits
