Introduction

The term "Converged Applications" has several connotations in the market and is often over-used by vendors with more focus on "Applications" and less on "Converged".

For HSC, "Converged Applications" means innovative applications that bridge the gap between the Telco and the Internet world. With the telecom market stabilization and the opening up of new business models over the Internet, there is significant interest in ISVs, OEMs and Service Providers in being able to roll out applications that help in increasing traffic over their network as well as increase customer stickiness. This convergence of services could be as diverse as voice/video convergence (desk-to-web-to-mobile phones), combining network presence with social network feeds, enterprise mobility applications or mobile payment mechanisms.

However, being able to deliver such solutions is a significant challenge, simply because the technologies and concepts in the "Telco" and "Internet" world are quite different. Similarly, vendors, who have been in the "telecom software" field find it challenging to understand the Internet model and associated technologies. At the same time, the Internet players find it hard to understand telecom intricacies. When new age providers, like those in user-content generation, distribution, entertainment, VoD, MoD and similar are tasked with delivering their applications over a mobile network, they necessarily need to understand the network characteristics, call control, SLA, QoS, routing principles are other issues which are complex.

In short, therefore, with the two worlds being significantly diverse in concepts and architecture, it is challenging to build a reliable end-end solution that bridges this gap. And, it is equally hard finding a partner who has significant investments and expertise on both sides to be able to help you build such solutions.

HSC helps you bridge this gap.
